Point-to-Point Tunneling Protocol (PPTP) allows users to tunnel to an Internet Protocol (IP) network using a Point-to-Point Protocol (PPP). The protocol is described in RFC2637. PPTP implementation using Cisco IOS® software releases contains a vulnerability that will crash a router if it receives a malformed or crafted PPTP packet.
Personally, I've used PPTP several times in the past because DES seemed "strong enough", though I make sure to dig around the settings and disable anything that looks like reduced security (40-bit RC4 and MS-CHAP v1, hopefully). I may have to reconsider this now, not because of any new attacks on MS-CHAP v2, but because DES is so thoroughly broken.
